What music, audiobooks, or podcasts are filling your studio airtime lately?
I like listening to MPB while I'm working in the studio (Musica Popular Brasileira), my favorite singer at the moments is Caetano Veloso.
What new ceramics have you added to your collection this year that you can’t live without now?
I love my ceramics collection! For Christmas I gave myself this beautiful "Moringa" (portuguese name of a specific kind of water jar that has a cup that acts as a lid). It was made by Nei Leite Xakriaba, and it is in the form of a ant eater, an endangered animal from the Brazilian Cerrado.
Share the most significant thing that happened to you and your work/studio practice in 2024?
I live in Asheville, NC, and in September of 2024 Hurricane Helene hit our mountains and created a huge devastation in our area. Unfortunately, I was one of many people affected by it, and lost my studio space. The warehouse that housed my studio got 5 feet of water and I lost all electric tools, as well as furniture and materials. I was able to recover some of my small tools and most of my artwork, which was a bit win, giving the circumstances.
What dream residency (either real or fantasy) would you like to attend?
I think I'm a lucky one! I already did the dream residency!!!! I participated in the Roswell Artist-in -Residency program and had the most wonderful time in the one year I was there!!!
Share your favorite (go to potluck) recipe? What ceramic piece do you serve it in?
If its wintre time, I like cooking some leek and goat cheese quiche, and I usually bake it in a Linda Christianson "pie dish".
Why Clay?
Clay is earth, a humble, common material that represents the possibility of growth and thus, life. Clay gives me stability and nourishes me, allowing me to communicate with and relate to the world. It has the ability to register touch and gesture; it records a moment in time.
