Because I'm embracing my inner maximalist, I can't choose just one! Last year was filled with a ton of things that influenced my practice. I went to a metals workshop with Angela Caldwell at Arrowmont and expanded my thoughts on hard and soft materials, my partner and I went abroad to Europe and we saw the Palace at Versailles in addition to eating so many beautiful wonderful things, and I started teaching several ceramics classes including a few kids classes (I'd only taught adults to that point). In between classes and excursions, I started to make larger and more experimental work. I had been working primarily with cup forms and mostly functional objects but was itching to get a bit crazier with my surfaces and construction. I used exhibitions I was a part of to figure out new ideas and found that when I'm busy, I incorporate influences more reactionarily rather than overthinking them.
